If you could benefit from a one to one relationship I spend a limited amount of my time engaged in Personal Coaching.  I use a personalized process designed to help you get from where you are to where you want to be. I employ a deliberate, systematic process utilizing assessment, focused conversations, and email to help you grow, take more purposeful action, and make sustained improvement in key areas of your life.

Personal Coaching offers some real benefits:

  • Having a competent sounding-board to help you get better organized around your key priorities?
  • Being able to discuss exactly what steps you need to take to navigate the challenges you’re facing?
  • Identify and candidly discuss what you need to be more successful at work – and in life?

If you are interested let’s talk and see if you are a good candidate for personal coaching.

I love working with teams. They’ve  become a basic building block for getting things done in most organizations. Whether it’s a group of contributors working with a functional manager on a daily basis or individuals working across function to create a matrixed team, they offer a number of potential benefits and challenges. They also require different skills beyond subject matter expertise. For a team to perform up to its potential, members have to have the right type of relationships with one another. I use two different methodologies to help the teams I work with perform up to their potential:

  • MBTI® Team Development

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator® offers a model for understanding ourselves and others. It is the most widely used psychological instrument – for normal, emotionally healthy people – in the world. I use the MBTI®  to help team members better understanding their preferences as well as the preferences of their teammates.  It offers a common set of lenses as well as a common language for working together. By using the MBTI® team members can get a better handle on their interactions with one another and develop an appreciation for their differences and connections to others. Ultimately, they can use this better understanding to enhance their emotional intelligence and to improve their abilities to communicate and work effectively with others.

  • SYMLOG Team Assessment and Development

SYMLOG is an acronym for a “SYstem for the Multiple Level Oevelbservation of Groups”. It’s both a model and a process for working with teams.

Here’s a little background on SYMLOG.

The system was initially developed through forty-five years of research in the Department of Psychology and Social Relations at Harvard University, by Professor Freed Bales. Those in-depth studies had multiple goals: to better understand effective team leadership, develop a tool for diagnosing group dynamics, and identifying the differentiators of superior team performance. The results of the investigations included a comprehensive theory of social interaction; a highly refined measurement system; and a set of precise tools for analyzing and improving effectiveness for people who live and work in groups of all sizes.

SYMLOG involves a multi-rater assessment process. Prior to the workshop, everyone in the team annonomously rates everyone else on a brief psychometric instrument. During the SYMLOG workshop team members learn the model and recieve feedback about their team as well as about how their specific behaviors are seen by other team members. They learn about their group’s dynamics, and develop a shared vision and comprehensive strategy for integrating individual strengths, resolving conflicts, fostering teamwork, and increasing productivity.

If you are interested in helping you team to take a step to that next level of performance let’s talk about the SYMLOG Team Assessment and Development process.
